Welcome to the City of Danielsville, Georgia!
Danielsville was founded in 1812, and grew from a 50 - acre tract purchased for a public square into a small but bustling community. Dominating the downtown area is the historic picturesque Madison County Courthouse, which was built in 1901 from bricks burned on the banks of nearby South Fork Broad River. The Madison County Government moved to a new Government Complex, paving the way for the restoration process. The Madison County Chamber of Commerce now occupies a restored portion of the Historic Courthouse. Several citizen's groups are seeking ways to renovate and use the rem
aining space.
On the north side of the Old Courthouse Square in Danielsville is a Veteran's Memorial Garden, which honors American men and women who have served their country in all of its armed conflicts. Radiating out from the square are small shops, shady streets and comfortable homes. The County's weekly newspaper, The Madison County Journal, has an office in Danielsville.
The County Seat is named for General Allen Daniel, a veteran
of the American Revolution and one of the area's most distinguished native sons, Dr. Crawford W. Long's boyhood home is a historic landmark in the town, he was the first physician to successfully use ether as an anesthetic to relieve pain during surgery.
Carlton, Comer, Colbert and Hull grew up along the railroad and experienced growth and prosperity during the days when cotton was king in the South.
